Forest Trail Explorer

US Forest Service and Southern Research Station

The Forest Trail Explorer is a collaborative project between the U.S. Forest Service’s Southern Research Station and National Forests in North Carolina.

The website helps visitors discover and learn about the trails in the national forests in North Carolina. Currently, this site showcases major trails in the Cheoah and Tusquitee ranger districts, Nantahala National Forest, in western North Carolina.

Forest Trail Explorer provides information, maps, photos and more in a format that is accessible from any smart device. These features enable visitors to better plan their trips to the national forests.

Warning: This online tool should not replace a compass and map when visiting the national forest. This website should be used for planning purposes only and not ground-level navigation.
